Dieting May Cause Bad Breath
Food stimulates our body to produce saliva. Saliva not only helps digest food but acts as "natures's mouthwash" by keeping the
mouth moist, washing away the plaque bacteria that produce foul smelling volatile sulfur compounds, and by dissolving the foul smelling
volatile sulfur compounds themselves.
When we diet, we produce far less saliva leading to a dry mouth. A dry mouth creates the perfect environment for odor causing
bacteria to flourish. If you diet, remember to drink ample amounts of water which keeps the mouth moist and also stimulates saliva
production.
